In April, 2026, the National Association for International Information Security submitted an application for accreditation with the Global Mechanism on developments in the field of ICTs in the context of international security and advancing responsible State behaviour in the use of ICTs (GM). The GM is the successor to previous UN formats for discussing international information security (IIS) issues — the Group of Governmental Experts and the Open-Ended Working Group. According to the GM Secretariat, 70 NGOs applied for accreditation in total.
On June 1, 2026, the GM Secretariat notified NAIIS that its application had been approved. The Association intends to participate in the formats provided by the GM. Specifically, it intends to engage in substantive discussions on the international legal aspects of IIS, including the development of legally binding agreements, and to promote the concept of a UN Convention on IIS.
